This toolbox is 16 inches - just like they say. However, you don't realize just how small that is until you get the box. Mine holds a hammer, some screwdrivers, a measuring tape, a small box of drill bits (not the drill itself - which is a small $20 drill from walmart) and a bunch of screws, batteries, and miscellaneous items. That's it. It doesn't have the space to hold anything else. However, I live in a 1br condo and this is sufficient for me. I keep the drill on top of the box. It holds everything else I would need occasionally. The box itself is entirely made of plastic. It has a cheap feeling to it, but what can you expect for less than $15? I believe Home Depot (probably Lowes too) carries a bigger toolbox for $15-20 as well, which is also made entirely of plastic and has a similar cheap feeling - but it's bigger. In the end, I'm satisfied with the purchase because it gets the job done. It won't hold all your crap - but it will force you to cut it down to the most important items - which is a good thing in my opinion. The reviews regarding the latch possibly breaking - I can see that. It has not happened to me yet after a month of use, but it does feel weak - so just be careful. It will work. This is a review of the "Stanley 016011R Series 2000 16-Inch Tool Box"Pros: Very cheap for the amount of space. I payed a little over $9.Sturdy plastic (but that keeps it light)Great colors (Black and yellow, you know what it is...)Cons:Plastic mold pour. They didn't do a great job cleaning the pour edges, but with a file or sandpaper this is easily remedied. The storage compartments on top are deeper than expected, which means less storage possibilities on the removable shelf. As others have stated the latch doesn't seem secure but if you do not overfill your toolbox the latch clicks securely into place.Overall thoughts:For the price point, this can't be beat. It definitely has situational value. I wouldn't purchase this if you are planning to head to a job site and need something heavy duty. If you are looking to construct a small toolbox for home repairs and small projects this works wonders as it will cut down on the number of trips back and forth to the garage for tools. I used it as a computer assembly kit and it fits the bill just right! This is a great and inexpensive tool box. I got it for my daughter to hold her art supplies which are somewhat expensive and to make it easier for her to organize and also carry them around if needed. This is much less expensive than an art specific box, and since I couldn't get her to give me much information on what she wanted, I got this to protect her supplies until she ever decides on something different. That probably will never happen as this seems to fit her needs. The removable tray is nice to hold small items and keep them from getting banged around with bigger supplies in the bottom, and the additional trays on the lid are an added bonus. I don't know how you can go wrong at under $10.I may buy another to keep in the house to hold some basic tools that i use for small repairs inside the house so I don't have to run around to find them when I need them back in the garage or elsewhere.Nothing fancy, but it serves my purpose. I am an avid woodworker/wood turner. I have a very well-equipped shop, including an abundance of storage that I've built myself (in the form of drawers, racks and specialized boxes) to keep everything in its place. In this particular case, I wanted storage for my pyrography tools, which consisted of two pens, two cords, a dual transformer and a variety of tips.I could have stuffed all of the equipment in one of my drawers, but I like to be organized so I can find the tools I need. This is a relatively small box (Stanley provides the same design in at least a couple of sizes). It includes the base, for the transformer (or any relatively bulky item), a tray (for the pens, or other smaller, but long tools), and four compartments on the top (for my tips, but for any other small tools or parts). It's a classic design that works! For small collection of lightweight tools, I'd recommend this tool box. However, because it is sturdy plastic only and not metal, don't look for this to hold a medium to large collection of older metal tools. The compartments on top are shallow and small, they're best utilized for loose screws, nails, or in my case I used picture frame nails, hooks, and the sort. Small items. This tool box has a shallow tray inside which is removable to access the larger compartment at the base. I've thoroughly packed mine with items such as a multi-tool ratchet set inside it's own case, a metal hammer, dry wall anchors/nails, pliers, small saw, leather utility gloves, and cable anchors. See picture. The top tray holds a small metal hammer, scissors, box cutter, clamp, and various other small tools useful for quick fix situations. Be careful about overloading the tray as it can be difficult to close afterwards.First off, let me make it clear that I am NOT a handyman. So don't mistake this for some kind of "Tim the Toolman" review." Last Christmas I got my then 2- and 3-year-old grandsons a toy workbench and some toy tools. What I needed to complete the ensemble was a tool box. This Stanley 16-inch tool box was perfect. Because it's plastic, it was light enough for either of them to carry. The latch was easy for them to open and close. The compartments in the lid worked great for small pieces--plastic nuts and bolts, etc. Best of all, it was durable ennough to still be in mint condition a year later after hours of use. Buying this Stanley tool box instead of some junky toy tool box was the smartest decision I made last Christmas. HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDIf you are doing returns you will be charged a restocking fee. Item was much smaller then thought and can be purchased cheaper elsewhere.
